FC Somers Club Tryout Format and Guidelines    

I.   TRY-OUTS

 A.   Not less than ninety (90) days prior to the commencement of each Fall season, nor less than one hundred fifty (150) days prior to each Spring season, the Club shall schedule club try-outs for each age grouping.  The then existing coaches in each respective age group, the head coach and the FC Somers Board shall schedule the tryouts.  

1.   Tryouts shall be scheduled on separate days for the following groupings: (a) Boys Developmental; (b) Girls Developmental: (c) Boys U-11 and above; and (d) Girls U-11 and above;

2.    The Evaluation Committee shall make every possible effort to ensure that each of the existing coaches in the respective age grouping can be in attendance at the tryout.  Moreover, each coach in the respective age groups shall invite at least one (1) other coach within the Club to act as an Evaluator for that coach, to assist in evaluating potential players for a team; 

 3.    The tryouts shall be held at Reis Park upon not less than ten (10) days notice provided by written notices to be distributed to students at each of the Somers public schools as appropriate for each tryout.

 B.   The following shall apply to all developmental teams in the U8, 9, 10 age grouping within the Club as of the Fall 2002 Season and thereafter; and shall continue to apply to each such age grouping as the age group progresses each subsequent season:

 1.   At least one hundred twenty (120) days prior to the commencement of each Fall season, the Board shall designate coaches for an “A” team and a “B” team to be established in each age grouping for the following Fall and Spring seasons;

2.    The designation shall be based upon the following criteria: (i) state licensing levels; (ii) years of coaching experience; and (iii) general level of competence;

3.    Not less than ninety (90) days prior to the commencement of each Fall season, nor less than one hundred twenty (120) days prior to the commencement of each  Spring season, the Club shall schedule a tryout day for each age grouping, in accordance with the provisions of these by-laws, at which the  “A” and “B” coaches of each age grouping shall be in attendance;

4.   At the tryout for each Fall season, the players in attendance shall be evaluated by the “A” and “B” coaches of each respective age grouping, together with their respective Evaluators and, to the extent possible, the Head Coach of the Club;

5.    In the event that not less than twenty-five players shall be in attendance at the tryout, for a particular age grouping, then, in such event, not less than two (2) teams shall be established for that age group;

6.    In such event, the “A” team coach shall choose one half (½) of the players in attendance at the tryout (and shall be entitled to choose the extra player in the event the number of attendees shall be uneven).  The players chosen by the “A” team coach shall constitute the “A” team in that age grouping.   The remaining players shall constitute the “B” team in that age grouping.

7.    The respective coaches, in conjunction with the Head Coach, shall determine which division of the East Hudson league (or any other league in which the Club may elect to play) in which each of the selected teams should play during the upcoming season.   The Head Coach shall have the right to make the final decision in the matter of division placement, subject to the review and consent of the Board;

8.    The respective coaches shall make their best efforts to afford an opportunity to play for all players in attendance at the tryout;

9.     In the event that less than twenty-five (25) players are in attendance at the tryout, for any particular age grouping, then, in such event, only one (1) team shall be established in that age grouping; the “A” coach shall be the head coach and the “B” coach shall be the assistant coach; the “A” coach shall select not less than fifteen (15) players (or all the players, if less than fifteen (15) are in attendance at the tryout); the Head Coach of the Club shall have the final determination as to the division of the league in which the team shall play, subject  to the review and consent of the Board.
